From First Call to Final Reveal — How a Kitchen Renovation With MD Kitchen Actually Works

Most renovation contractors want to give you a number on day one. We do not, and the reason is straightforward. A quote produced before your design is finalized and your materials are selected is a guess. We do not work in guesses. Here is what the actual process looks like, end to end.

Step 1

Free Site Visit & Project Assessment

We come to your home in Toronto, the GTA, or surrounding areas and walk through the existing kitchen with you. Our team listens to what is and is not working, evaluates the space, and discusses what you are hoping to achieve. The site visit is about understanding your project completely — not about producing a quote based on incomplete information. You receive expert insight, design suggestions, and clarity on what is possible. There are no fees and no commitment required.
Step 2

Free 3D Design and Layout Development

Based on what we learn at the site visit, our in-house design team produces a full 3D rendering of your proposed new kitchen at no charge. You see the layout, the cabinet configuration, and the design direction at full scale before any material is selected. Adjustments are made as many times as needed until the design reflects exactly what you want. This is the stage where every decision is easy to revise — and revisions cost nothing.
Step 3

Material Selection at Our Showroom

Once the design direction is locked in, you visit our Markham showroom at 50 Karachi Dr or our Pickering showroom at 955 Brock Rd. You see every option in person, compare cabinet finishes against countertop slabs and flooring samples under real lighting, and select every detail of your kitchen alongside our team. The Pickering showroom carries full slab selection for clients who want to view the complete piece of stone before it is cut.
Step 4

Fixed Written Quote & Sign-Off

After the 3D design is approved and every material is confirmed, we produce a single written fixed quote covering every element of the project: design, all materials, every trade, and project management. This is the only point at which a price is given, because it is the only point at which the price is genuinely accurate. What you sign is what you pay. Nothing is added afterward, regardless of how the project progresses.
Step 5

Construction, Management, & Final Walkthrough

Your dedicated project manager oversees every stage of construction from day one. Our in-house team handles demolition, cabinet installation, countertops, tile, flooring, plumbing, and electrical. You receive regular updates throughout. Most full kitchen renovations are completed in 1 to 2 weeks. We walk through the finished kitchen with you before considering the project closed, and your completed kitchen is backed by our workmanship warranty from the day it is handed over.

Kitchen Layouts We Renovate Across Toronto, GTA & Surrounding Areas

Every kitchen has a different footprint and a different set of challenges. We renovate every layout type across Toronto, the GTA, and surrounding areas with the same in-house team and fixed pricing on every project. Tell us what you have. We will show you exactly what it can become.

The L-shaped kitchen is one of the most common layouts in GTA homes and one of the most versatile to work with. Two adjoining walls create a natural workflow that keeps cooking, prep, and storage within easy reach.

We maximise every corner of an L-shaped layout with smart cabinet configurations, full-height storage solutions, and countertop runs designed around how you actually use the space.

The result is a kitchen that feels open, functional, and completely refreshed without compromising the footprint that already works.

A U-shaped kitchen wraps around three walls, which means it delivers more usable storage and counter space per square foot than almost any other layout.

This configuration is built for serious cooking. The work triangle is exceptionally tight, meaning the distance between the sink, the cooktop, and the refrigerator is minimal regardless of where they are positioned along the U.

Multiple cooks can operate in the same space without interfering with each other because each leg of the U effectively becomes its own work zone. For households where the kitchen is the centre of household activity, U-shaped layouts perform exceptionally.

Galley kitchens are long, narrow, and frequently dismissed by homeowners as difficult to renovate well. We see them differently. A galley kitchen, when designed correctly, is one of the most efficient layouts in residential design. The reason is straightforward.

Two parallel runs of cabinetry create an extremely tight workflow where every step in the cooking process happens within a few feet of every other. Professional kitchens have used the galley layout as their standard for decades for exactly this reason.

The layout is fast, focused, and capable of producing more output per square foot than any other configuration.

One-wall kitchens are most common in condos, studio apartments, lofts, and open-plan living spaces across Toronto and the GTA. The entire kitchen runs along a single wall, which means every linear inch of cabinetry, countertop, and appliance placement has to be intentional. There is no room for layout inefficiency.  Storage decisions made on a brochure or floor plan rarely survive the realities of living in the space.

The defining renovation question for one-wall kitchens is how to extract maximum function from minimum footprint. Our design approach to this layout treats the wall as a vertical canvas rather than a horizontal counter run. Full-height cabinetry from floor to ceiling is almost always the right answer.

The space gained by extending cabinets to the ceiling instead of stopping at standard upper cabinet height is substantial — often the difference between feeling cramped and feeling considered. The visual benefit is equally real. A one-wall kitchen with full-height cabinetry reads as a deliberate architectural feature. The same kitchen with standard 30-inch uppers reads as undersized.

Opening up a kitchen to the adjacent living and dining space is the highest-impact renovation a homeowner can make in most older GTA properties. The change is fundamental rather than cosmetic.

The kitchen ceases to be a separate utility room and becomes the social and functional centre of the home. Light moves more freely. Conversations span the entire main floor. The way the household uses the space shifts permanently, and almost always for the better.

Kitchen Renovation Pricing in Toronto, GTA & Surrounding Areas

Hidden costs are the most common complaint homeowners have after a kitchen renovation. We removed that problem by quoting only after the scope is fully defined. Every project is priced at a single fixed all-inclusive number that covers design, all materials, labour, and project management. The number you sign off on is the final number you pay. Prices vary based on kitchen size, materials selected, and scope of work.

From Concept to Completion: Premium Kitchen Remodeling

Every great kitchen starts with a vision. We take that vision and turn it into a space that is functional, beautiful, and built to last.

This kitchen went from outdated and cramped to open, modern, and full of life. Every cabinet, countertop, and finish was chosen with care.

Our clients come to us with a problem and leave with a kitchen they are proud to show off. Same space. Completely transformed. Our team handles everything from the first design sketch to the final install. The results speak for themselves.

Frequently Asked Questions

Kitchen Renovation FAQ — Toronto, GTA & Surrounding Areas Homeowners Ask Us

Kitchen renovation costs in Toronto and the GTA start from $12,999 for a small or condo kitchen and range to $60,000 or more for full custom luxury builds. A standard full kitchen renovation typically falls between $25,000 and $45,000. Large open-concept layouts generally fall between $45,000 and $60,000.

The final cost depends on your kitchen size, the materials you select, and the scope of work involved. Every MD Kitchen project comes with a fixed written quote produced after your site visit, 3D design approval, and material selection. The number you approve is the number you pay. Design, all materials, labour, and project management are included.

Most full kitchen renovations completed by MD Kitchen run 1 to 2 weeks from the first day of construction to final handover. Smaller condo kitchens and focused remodels often wrap up closer to one week. Larger or fully custom builds may take longer depending on scope and material lead times.

We give you a firm timeline before construction begins and we hold to it. Poor planning is the reason most GTA renovations drag on for months. Every trade, every material order, and every stage is planned before our team sets foot in your home, and that preparation is what keeps our timelines reliable.

Cabinetry is consistently the largest single cost in any kitchen remodel, typically representing 35 to 45 percent of the total renovation budget. Custom or semi-custom cabinetry in solid wood or high-grade MDF costs more than stock options but lasts considerably longer and holds up far better under daily use.

Countertops are the second largest expense — natural stone surfaces like quartz, granite, and quartzite carry a higher material cost than laminate alternatives, but they perform better and add real value to the home. Labour is the third major cost factor, particularly when licensed plumbing and electrical work is involved. At MD Kitchen all trades are in-house, which removes the markup most contractors add when they subcontract these services.

Yes, depending on the size of the space and the scope. MD Kitchen projects start from $12,999 for small condo kitchens and focused cosmetic updates. A $15,000 budget works well for refreshing cabinets, replacing countertops, installing a new backsplash, and updating fixtures in a compact kitchen without changing the layout.

The most important step at this budget is an honest conversation about what is actually achievable before any work begins. We do not oversell a project to win the contract and adjust costs once we are in your home. Your free site visit and the conversation around it will tell you exactly what your budget can deliver.

Every MD Kitchen renovation includes a free 3D design, full material selection at our showroom, demolition, supply and installation of every material, licensed plumbing and electrical work where required, dedicated project management from start to finish, and our workmanship warranty on completed work.

Quartz countertops are backed by a lifetime warranty. All of this is covered under one fixed written price agreed upon before construction begins. There are no separate design fees, no project management surcharges, and no costs added after sign-off.

Kitchen renovations consistently rank among the highest-return home improvements in the GTA real estate market. An updated kitchen signals quality throughout the rest of the home and is one of the first things buyers notice and weight in their offer. Beyond resale value, the daily impact is just as significant.

A kitchen that functions better, stores more efficiently, and looks the way you want it to improves how your household operates every day you spend in the home. The combination of lifestyle return and property value impact makes a kitchen renovation one of the most justifiable investments most GTA homeowners can make.

Kitchen remodeling generally refers to updating specific elements of an existing kitchen without changing the underlying layout. New cabinet doors, a countertop replacement, a fresh backsplash, and updated lighting are all remodeling scope — the bones of the kitchen stay in place.

A full kitchen renovation is a more comprehensive transformation involving full cabinet replacement, layout adjustments where applicable, plumbing or electrical work, and flooring replacement. MD Kitchen handles both. During your free site visit we assess your kitchen honestly and recommend only the approach that genuinely makes sense for your specific situation, budget, and goals.

Booking 4 to 6 weeks in advance is a practical target for most kitchen renovation projects across the GTA. This allows time for the site visit, 3D design completion, material selection at our showroom, and ordering of any materials with production lead times before construction starts.

For larger or fully custom builds with premium natural stone or specialty cabinetry, booking 6 to 10 weeks ahead gives more flexibility on scheduling and ensures your preferred construction window is available. Contact us at 647-499-5959 to check current availability and start the process with a free site visit.

Yes, and we encourage it. Both our Markham and Pickering showrooms are open for clients who want to see materials, finishes, vanities, and cabinet styles in person before making any decisions. There is no obligation to book a renovation to visit. You can come in, take your time, and speak with our team about what you are considering.
Seeing materials in person changes how decisions are made. Tile that looks one way on a screen reads completely differently in natural light against real cabinetry. Our showrooms exist precisely to remove that uncertainty and give you full confidence in your selections before anything is ordered or installed.
